The long awaited sequel to the original Star Wars Battlefront is just around the corner with a host of changes that are sure to intrigue newcomers to the series but risk alienating existing fans.
First let’s get to the good stuff: Star Wars Battlefront 2, or “Project: StaWaBaFrotoo” takes place entirely on “Planet Italee” and is set in the beloved prequel universe that Star Wars fans can’t get enough of. The game’s events occur between episodes 3 and 4 centers around a newly introduced Gungan-engineered time travel device called a “Timebo” that allows Gungans to travel back in time in order to change the events that occur in movies 4-6. These attempts result in what is called “The Time Wars”; events that allow players to experience an all new (retconned) canon story penned by George Lucas which leads into his final director’s cut re-release of the original Star Wars films.

Earlier this year it was reported that Battlefront 2 would be a collectable-card based MOBA, thankfully the preview build seems to be the same old “Battlefield-like” First Person Shooter people have been proven to enjoy buying. The developers have rightly described the sequel as an “UPGRADE” featuring new stuff and “more better”.
Battlefront 2 will feature beloved Star Wars weapons like “the shotgun” and classic vehicles like “several Stormtroopers on each other’s shoulders”. Multiplayer has been confirmed as a returning feature to the series. Now onto the new stuff that may have fans itching with conditioned anticipation. Battlefront 2 allows players to create a totally customizable avatar to play as, the downside is, due to the setting, you will be limited to creating a Gungan character.

The customization options are great but this means that unlike the first game you can no longer play as fan favorite characters like Luke or Darth Maul. These characters have been integrated into the games in other ways however; all Jedi now function as ridable vehicles, similar to helicopters (Jedicopters), which use their twirling Lightsabers to propel themselves through the air and can shoot devastating “Force Rays” from their mouths. Larger Jedi function as 2 seater models so a buddy can come along for the ride.
” …’The Time Wars’ … that allow players to experience an all new (retconned) canon story penned by George Lucas…”
Yoda works a bit differently, acting as a backpack attachment that greatly boosts your Gungan’s firepower and jumping ability. Grabbing a Yoda is a bit like getting the Quad damage in Quake so to keep things balanced each team is limited to a maximum of 15 Yodas at a time.
All in all we’re really looking forward to playing through Battlefront 2’s Gungan Time Wars, how about you? Are you excited to see George Lucas back in charge of Star Wars?
